William Carl Lewis

LEWIS
William Carl Lewis, 100, of Sparta, IL, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL. Carl was born January 18, 1920 and was the youngest child of William Samuel and Effie Elizabeth (McMillan) Lewis.
He grew up in Marissa. Carl was a World War II veteran and was employed for many years by Peabody Coal Company. Carl married Betty Marie Burns on June 28, 1941 and lived most of his married life in Sparta. His wife preceded him in death on December 8, 2003.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers – George, Earle, Clyde and an infant brother, Homer; One sister – Pearl Lewis Singer; adult grandson – Mark Stephen Lewis; infant great-grandson – Todd Lee Lewis.
Survivors include three sons – James Carl (Bonnie) Lewis of Herrin, IL, David Eugene Lewis of Sparta, IL and Lawrence Lee (Betsy) Lewis of Indianapolis, IN; Three grandchildren – Susan (Ross) Friedman of Wilmette, IL, James Todd (Becky) Lewis of Herrin, IL and Craig Jonathan (Shannon) Lewis of Carmel, IN. Six great-grandchildren – Abigail Friedman of Wilmette, IL, Zev Friedman of Wilmette, IL, Wyatt Lewis of Herrin, IL, Scarlett Lewis of Herrin, IL, Gavin Lewis of Carmel, IN and Adalyn Lewis of Carmel, IN.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Randolph County Care Center.
A private graveside service will be held with interment in Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.
Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.

Our love to all of you , thinking back on sweet memories. What a blessing , 100 years. Not many achieve that age. Our prayers to all of you it’s never easy loosing a parent or grandparent. Love Stan and Bev
