William "Bill" Hood

HOOD

William “Bill” Hood, 76, of Sparta, IL; born on December 23, 1947 in Sparta, IL the son of John LeRoy and Pansy Mae (Bean) Hood; passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at home.

Bill worked at World Color Press for twenty-seven years before changing careers to work for the Randolph County Road District.  Bill was a United States Army Veteran that was proud of his time in the service.  He was also a member of the Sparta Masons.  Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.  He loved and cherished the time spent with his kids and grandkids, giving each one their own personal nickname.  Family was everything to Bill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bart Hood.

Bill is survived by three children – John (Heather) Hood of Steeleville, IL, Amy (Art) Konarcik of Perryville, MO, and Cassie (Michael) Zacheis of Belleville, IL; eight grandchildren – Austin “A-Wade” Konarcik, Samantha “Sammy” Zacheis, Tony “Tone-Balone” Konarcik, Jayden “Jaydee Bug” Hood, Jordan “Jordy Bug” Hood, Logan “Logy Bug” Zacheis, Gabi “Gabaroo” Hood, and Alexus “Toodle Bug” Zacheis; two brothers – John C. (Linda) Hood of Sparta, IL and Bob (Joyce) Hood of Woodlawn, IL; one sister – Sue (Ronald) Wehrheim of Woodlawn, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

The Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Sparta, IL on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Leslie Chalupny officiating.  Committal Services will take place at Hood Cemetery in Sparta, IL.

Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I am so glad you listed the special names B I gave everyone….it was one of the first things I thought of along with all of the 4th of July fireworks…Roseborough bottoms fun times and much laughter. He was very special and “one of a kind”…love from Laurie “Lardy” and Gary SHAIN
