Vickie Sue Luter

Vickie Sue Luter, nee Lischer, 74, of New Athens, IL, born July 15, 1947 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Friday August 13, 2021 at the New Athens Home for the Aged.  She was very active in the community. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, VFW 7710 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Clair County Genealogical Society, former board member of the Village of New Athens and served 6 years as board president for the New Athens Home for the Aged.  As a member of the Lions Club in New Athens, she was past president of the New Athens Chapter and District Governor 1CS for the State of Illinois.

Mrs. Luter was preceded in death by her parents; Cletus C. “Dutch” and Lucille M. (Frantz) Lischer.

Vickie is survived by her beloved husband; Gerald D “Jerry” Luter, Sr., son; Marc (Janice) Maurer of New Athens, IL, two stepsons; Gerald D. Luter, Jr. of Dupo, IL and Ryan (Stacie) Luter of Waterloo, IL, stepdaughter; Kami Luter of Columbia, IL, two sisters; Karen Zimmerman of New Athens, IL and Roxie Lischer of Shiloh, IL, grandchildren; Deric J. Maurer, step grandchildren; Kayla Luter, Jocelyn Luter, Kayleigh Luter, Jackson Luter, Bobby (Danielle) Smith and Chris (Veronica) Smith, two step great grandchildren; Madilyn and Chesney Smith, nieces; Sheryl Washburn, Jessica Erb and Linsey Erb, nephew; Eric Zimmerman and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to the New Athens Home for the Aged.

Visitation: Friends and family may gather at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL on Wednesday August 18, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday August 19, 2021 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Funeral:  Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday August 19, 2021 at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
