Thomas J. “Slats” Wingerter

WINGERTER
Thomas J. “Slats” Wingerter, 76, of Sparta, IL; born on May 29, 1946 in Chester, IL the son of Lenus and Eleanor (Braun) Wingerter; passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, IL.
Thomas was a great fisherman that enjoyed fishing in tournaments and being on a boat with his friends. He was the Treasurer of the Chester Boat Club for many years and was involved in many fundraisers, hosting dinners, and tournaments through the club. Thomas was always there to help when he was asked upon. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sparta, IL and served as a Knight of Columbus through the church. Thomas enjoyed collecting coins & stamps, camping, and helping his wife bake at home. His family meant the world to him and spending time with them was his most favorite hobby of all.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife – Peggy (Higgins) Wingerter to whom he married on June 9, 1978 in Chester, IL; four daughters & sons-in-law – Denise (Jack) Moore of Perryville, MO, Dianna (Steven) Hess of Evansville, IL, Teresa (Bruce) Jeffers of Sparta, IL, and Kathleen (Jon) Wolter of Sparta, IL; one son & daughter-in-law – Gene (Heather) Doiron of Warrenton, MO; thirteen grandchildren – Mandy (Dwight) Lochhead, Jeni Lee (Kerie) Moore, Jack J. (Dawn) Moore, Derrick (Carla) Hess, Darren (Elizabeth) Hess, Ashley (Jeremy) Pickering, Elizabeth (Clinton) Bert, Shanna Jeffers, Dustin (special friend, Taylor Hepp) Jeffers, Teri Lynn (Jimmie) Rice, Ian M. Wolter, Seth Doiron, and Corinna Doiron; twenty-three great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers & sisters-in-law – William (Patricia) Wingerter of Perryville, MO and Donald (Jeri) Wingerter of Chester, IL; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Lenus and Eleanor (Braun) Wingerter; two sisters & brothers-in-law – Mary (Leo) Cummings and Margaret (John) Morgan; two brothers & sisters-in-law – Robert (Lois) Wingerter and James (Agnus) Wingerter.

The Visitation for Mr. Wingerter will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sparta, IL from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 with Father Iuvenis officiating.
Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

We are so Sorry to hear about Tom Passing. I met him and Peggy when I worked at Krogers. They both worked with my Parents at Spartan Printing. Always enjoyed talking with them. Rest in Peace Slats.

Peggy so sorry about slats passing. Gary always enjoyed fishing with him and the good times u all had at spc. Slats was one of a kind .so glad u guys found each other

Tom (Slates) was one of the most kindness man I’ve ever met. He was always smiling and ready to give a hug..Always loved his and Peggy’s cookies!! Will miss him so much. Praying for Peggy and family during this difficult and sad time.
