Samuel Smart, 89, of Sparta, IL; born on July 9, 1929 in Sparta, IL; passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle, IL.

Mr. Smart worked for Universal Oil Products and the Randolph County Highway Department. Sam was a Petroleum Engineer that traveled to different countries building oil refineries. He was a 50 year member of the Sparta Masonic Lodge. Sam was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents – Samuel and Lily, nee Blunt, Smart.  Four sisters – Hannah Burns, Alice Petty, Beatrice Shomaker and Edith Johnson.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

In accordance with Sam’s wishes, there will be no services held.

Heil, Schuessler and Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    Uncle Sam was a beautiful person. He spent years working at the Eden Community Park in Eden, Illinois. Sam was passionate about the Eden park and anything that grows, blooms and spreads joy. He always made people feel so special and loved. It was truly a blessing having him in my life.
