Russell C. Kinzinger

Russell C. Kinzinger

Russell Clarence Kinzinger, who was born February 16, 1963, passed away July 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after a 13-month battle with brain cancer. Russell received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois in 1989 and then ultimately fulfilled his lifelong dream, returning to the area he grew up in to open a veterinary practice. He spent the last 30 years serving the community and doing a job he loved very much. He also greatly loved helping on the family farm when he had free time.

More important to Russell than being a good doctor and person was his faith and his commitment to serve his Savior. He grew up going to church, but realized later in life that he did not truly have a relationship with his Creator.  In true Kinzinger style, when he was saved, he wanted to serve with excellence and wisdom, and so he took night and online classes for three years to earn a master’s degree in Christian Ministry from Missouri Baptist, while still working full time and having more than a few kids at home.  He taught all ages of kids and adults over the years, but his Thursday night Freeburg men’s Bible study group held a special place in his heart, as he truly believed that iron sharpens iron and that we need godly men to lead our families and communities.  One of his greatest desires is that the group not only continues but grows in number and influence going forward.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Vera Kinzinger.

Russell is survived by his wife of 34 years, Angie, and his children, who he loved dearly: Erin (Taylor) Wylie and their children Joel and Miles, Audrey, Lauren, Caleb, Samuel, Jason, Joshua and Jeremy. He is also survived by his siblings: Rita (Neil) LaVanchy, Randy (Brenda) Kinzinger, Ruth Schneider, Rhonda (John) Morse and Rodney (Cindy) Kinzinger, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A scholarship fund has been established in his name. Checks can be made out to “New Athens FFA Russell Kinzinger Scholarship Fund” and received at the visitation or mailed to: New Athens High School FFA, Attn: Russell Kinzinger FFA Scholarship Fund, 501 Hanft St, New Athens IL 62264.

Donations can also be made to KidsLife Extra, a ministry to special needs kids and their families of First Baptist Church O’Fallon. Checks can be made out to KidsLife Extra and received at the visitation or mailed to First Baptist Church O’Fallon, 1111 E. Highway 50, O’Fallon IL 62269.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. on Saturday July 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church,1111 East Highway 50, O’Fallon, IL.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday July 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church,1111 East Highway 50, O’Fallon, IL. with Pastors Skip Leininger and Tom Dawson officiating.  Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
