Robert O. Schmierbach, 85, of Marissa, IL; born June 8, 1927 in Marissa, IL; passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.
Mr. Schmierbach was a United States Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was an aircraft mechanic at Scott Air Force Base and later worked at the Federal Aviation Systems Command in St. Louis, MO, after retiring from there Bob worked at Browns Implement in Marissa, IL and owned and operated Bob’s Upholstery Shop. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dora, nee Waeltz, Schmierbach. A brother – Warren Schmierbach.
He is survived by his wife Lucille, nee Edgar, Schmierbach whom he married on June 25, 1954 at Friedens United Church of Christ in Marissa, IL. 2 daughters – Brenda (Rick) Kinzel of Marissa, IL; Connie Johnson of Marissa, IL. 3 grandchildren – Jamie (Les) Norman of Freeburg, IL; Joshua Johnson of Freeburg, IL; Chelsea (Andrew) Meredith of Louisville, KY. 4 great grandchildren – Aidan Norman; Grady Norman; Kyler Meredith; McKenzie Meredith. 1 brother – Milton (Blanche) Schmierbach of Marissa, IL. 1 sister-in-law – Pearl (Eddie) Besancon of Nashville, TN.

Visitation: Friends may call at the Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Funeral: Services will be held at the Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00am with Rev. Gail Geisel officiating.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Friedens United Church of Christ or to the Loren Schmierbach Benefit Fund.

Interment: Burial will be held at the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.
