ReplyI am shocked and saddened to hear about Robert’s passing. Ever since I can remember we were always in a friendly competition about all of our school work and who was smarter!! I always knew Robert was smarter!! Even though I hadn’t talked to Robert in years, I always considered him a good friend and often thought of him and all the laughs we had. I’m so sorry for your loss. Godspeed my friend.

ReplyMr. Sauerwein,
My sincere condolences to you for your loss of an extraordinary young man. Along with my brother, Jeff, I was a good friend of Rob’s for four years at the University of Illinois. We spent lots of time together in the dorms our first two years of college. He often impressed me with his intelligence and he took pride in the fact that during One or both semesters his sophomore year he was able to sleep in and skip a great many of his classes while still getting all A’s. He was a good ping-pong player and a better shot at pool having learned at his family bar and Marissa. He would talk about chicken and beer dances at his hometown much to the delight of his friends. We would also poke fun at him over this along with the supposed school song of his high school. Rob was a roommate in an apartment our junior year. I remember him coming home every Friday after his last class of the week saying every time, “It’s the weekend boys!” He loved the cardinals and jack buck and liked the football cards as well to the point of throwing a glass of root beer at a fellow roommate when he talked poorly regarding the team moving to Arizona. Needless to say we had lots of good times together and he is missed. I’m sure he’s delighting being able to personally speak to his hero, Ronald Reagan.
