Robert "Mark" Robertson

ROBERTSON

Robert “Mark” Robertson, 60, of Sparta, IL; born on November 21, 1963 in Sparta, IL, the son of Robert Paul Robertson and Sharon Kay (Owens) Anderson; passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024 in St. Libory, IL.

Mark was an athlete in his younger days; he enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball.  Once Mark graduated from high school, he continued his education and basketball career with John A. Logan.  After graduating college, Mark went to work at Menard Correctional Facility in Chester for thirty years before retiring.  In that time, he worked his way up receiving the title as a Sergeant.  Mark had a strict job but when away from work, he loved to travel and watch his favorite bands such as Government Mule, Drive-By Truckers, Grateful Dead, and Dead & Co.  Some of his other hobbies included dove hunting and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Mark is survived by his loving wife – Amy Robertson of Sparta, IL to whom he married on August 12, 2003 in Nashville, TN; two children – Emily Robertson of Sparta, IL and Robert “Mason” Robertson of Sparta, IL; brother – Michael Robertson of Steeleville, IL; two step daughters – Andrea (Andrew) Kelley of Sparta, IL and Shelby Jones of Granite City, IL; stepson – Dylan Cavalier of Sparta, IL; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Zack Robertson.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Sparta High School Boys Basketball.

The Visitation will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Mark was passionate about music, so the family asks that friends wear their Grateful Dead apparel or tie dye shirts to the Visitation.  It was Mark’s wish to be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
