Robert Lester “Les” Holcomb, 77, of Marissa, IL, born December 18, 1936 in Sparta TWP, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL. Mr. Holcomb honorably served his country in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Yorktown. He was a very skilled craftsman and carpenter. He recently received his 50 year pin from Carpenter’s Local #662. He was also an active member of Marissa Presbyterian Church who had held several offices in the church besides being an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Mr. Holcomb was preceded in death by his parents; Edgar Earl and Olivia (Gerber) Holcomb; 1 daughter Cynthia Ellen Holcomb who died in infancy, and also by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Les is survived by his wife, Beatrice Maureen (Gerlach) Holcomb of Marissa, IL, who he married on August 29, 1959 in Sparta, IL, 1 son; Timothy Dwight (Monique) Holcomb of Lake Forest, CA, 1 daughter Victoria Elaine (Matthias) Trummer of Highlands Ranch, CO, 2 sisters; Marjorie Dickey of Marissa, IL and Delores Cunningham of Jerseyville, IL and 4 grandchildren; Morgan and Lauren Holcomb and Adam and Heidi Trummer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marissa Presbyterian Church Mission Committee.
Visitation: Friends may call at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, Illinois on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Funeral: Memorial services will be held at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, Illinois on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00am with Rev. James Ryan officiating.
