Rita Kay Walker, 79, of Sparta, IL; born on October 20, 1941 in Sparta, IL; passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 in Sparta, IL.

Rita worked at Walmart in Sparta for over 20 years before retiring.  She loved her Walmart crew.  Rita had a sweet tooth and enjoyed a cold Pepsi or “strawberry sunda” from Dairy Queen any day of the week.  She enjoyed listening to old music and the Blues.  Rita was a kind hearted lady that loved her grandkids and great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her first husband – Napolean Rowell; parents – Gwendolyn and Geraldine (Morrison) Walker; daughter – Michelle Hinton; brother – John Walker.

Rita is survived by four children  – Theresa (Timothy) Rowell of Belleville, IL, Laurie Rowell of Sparta, IL, Natalie Rowell of Sparta, IL and Scott Rowell of Sparta, IL; seven grandchildren – Calvin Hinton II of Nashville, IL, Marquies Rowell of Sparta, IL, Chase Rowell of Belleville, IL, Delance (Ashley) Rowell of Murphysboro, IL, Natalia Monroe of Sparta, IL, Ceonda Rowell of Belleville, IL and Olivia Rowell of Afton, MO; twenty-one great grandchildren; two brothers – Paul Walker of Naples, FL and Stevie (Wanda) Walker of Sparta, IL; three sisters – Mary Walker of Sparta, IL, Marie Smith of Sparta, IL and Roberta Walker of Sparta, IL.

Family and friends may attend the Church of God in Christ Jesus in Sparta on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of God in Christ Jesus in Sparta on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Ernest Shepard and guests officiating

Interment will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.

    So sorry for the loss of your Mom, Rita K was a Sweet Lady,always enjoyed being around her, she would definitely speak her mind, and would end her rant with the word “Now” lol!
