Rickie Lee Kinzel

Rickie Lee Kinzel, 68, of Marissa, IL, born January 11, 1955 in Red Bud, IL, passed away on Tuesday January 2, 2024 at his home. Rick worked at Freeburg Underground Mine, then at Zeigler #11. He retired from the mines after 32 years and then worked with the UMWA. Through the years he also volunteered as an EMT with the Marissa Volunteer Ambulance Service, as a Boy Scouts leader, and organized a Marissa Bass Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. Being outdoors was one of his favorite things to do whether it was boating, riding motorcycles, or polishing his vehicles. He also enjoyed bowling, playing poker/pinochle & slot car racing. In recent years, his favorite pastimes were being in his back yard with his beloved pets Bijou, Sugar & Spice as well as spoiling and enjoying meals with his family & grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Leroy and Peggy (LeVeque) Kinzel.

Surviving him are his loving wife – Brenda (Schmierbach) Kinzel, whom he married on June 27, 1976 in Marissa, IL, 1 daughter – Chelsea (Andrew) Meredith of Crestwood, KY, 3 sisters – Robin (Jerry) Sheffer of Morganfield, KY, Ronda (Mike) White of Tilden, IL and Rhoda (Eddie) Goss of Marissa, IL and his 4 grandchildren – Kyler, McKenzie, Alexis and Luke Meredith.

Memorials may go to Vitas Hospice or Friedens United Church of Christ in Marissa, IL.

Visitation: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday February 17, 2024 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL.

Memorial service: Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday February 17, 2024 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL with Rev. Brett Palmer officiating.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    Sincerest sympathy for the entire family.
    I only knew Rick through my friendship with Rhonda. I remember seeing him at the house. Vickie was friends with Robin and I think our brother younger Charlie had a thing for Rhoda. It seems like a million years ago and yesterday at the same time.
