MCINTYRE

Richard Lyle McIntyre, 78, of Sparta, IL; born on September 15, 1945 in Sparta, IL, the son of Robert Lyle and Hazel Berniece (Endicott) McIntyre; passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard worked as a special education & 6th grade social studies teacher when he first graduated from college.  He then went on to work for the United States Postal Service in 1975 until retiring in 2010.  Richard was a collector of many things, but he especially enjoyed collecting Native American artifacts (searching creek beds and fields for arrowheads and other things they used) and postage stamps.  There was always a sports car in his possession throughout his entire life, and it always had a rag top roof.  He loved to hike and travel on many trips, exploring 48 of the 50 states.

He is survived by his loving wife – Janice (Lindenberg) McIntyre of Sparta, IL to whom he married in 1967 in Sparta, IL; two children – Robert Lyle (Victoria) McIntyre of Belen, NM and Carrie Lynne McIntyre of Ashburn, VA; three grandchildren – Reise Linden Wedeking of Carbondale, IL, William “Knox” Cooper of St. Louis, MO, and Lyla Kay Cooper of St. Louis, MO; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sparta Trinity Presbyterian Women’s Association, 301 West Broadway Street, Sparta, Illinois 62286.

The Visitation will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sparta, IL on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Neill officiating.  Committal Services will take place at Paradise Cemetery in Bremen, IL.

    I am just seeing this notice of Dick’s passing. I am so sorry that I was unaware of it. When Dick was still teaching, we became very good friends and our rooms were side by side. I have lots of good memories of working beside him. Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss.

I still have pictures of me and other kids in his 6th grade classroom, we were kind of a mess, I’m sure we stressed him out! My Dad really enjoyed visiting with him and working with him at the Post-Office, which of course I did too when I was in Sparta.
