GRIEBEL

Ralph Elmer Griebel, 87, of Coulterville, IL; born on April 22, 1934 in St. Clair County, IL; passed away on April 30, 2021 at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.

He worked at the Operating Engineers Local 520 for 47 years before retiring.  Ralph loved to farm and was able to do it until he turned 70 years old.  He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.  The largest event he and his family participated in every year was the Christmas decorating that began in October.  Ralph would get a 10 foot tall Christmas tree that he and his family would put over thirty strands of lights on every year.  He knew how to light up a neighborhood.  In Ralph’s younger days he was a volunteer firefighter at the New Athens Fire Department.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife – Mary (Thompson) Griebel who passed away on March 14, 2018; parents – Henry A. and Irene (Muskopf) Griebel; granddaughter – Janel Rabe; brother – Robert Griebel; infant daughter – Renee Griebel; step son – Phillip Biermann; son-in-law – Ralph Rabe.

He is survived by two children – Kevan (Carol) Griebel of Lenzburg, IL and Renda Rabe of Coulterville, IL; six grandchildren – Terica (Andy) English of O’Fallon, IL, Erin Griebel of Miami, FL, Kyle (Sarah) Biermann of Belleville, IL, Jim (Glenda) Rabe of Coulterville, IL, Jenny (Matthew) Kaiser of Glen Carbon, IL, JoAnn (Josh) Smith of Cisne, IL; twelve great grandchildren – Bennett (Delaney) English, Cortland English, Jadeyn English, Maddox English, Paxton English, Emersyn English, Kailynne Rabe, Victor Rabe, Natalie Kaiser, Nathan Kaiser, Jakob Smith, and Jase Smith; friend and caregiver – Colleen Callan of Nashville, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Coulterville Holiday Light Association.

Visitation: Friends and family may attend Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral: Memorial services will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darwin Schrader officiating.

Interment: Burial will take place at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL immediately following the memorial service.

    UNCLE RALPH WAS MARRIED TO MY AUNT MARY. HE WAS A VERY KIND AND FRIENDLY PERSON. HE WAS WILLING TO HELP ANYONE WITH ANYTHING. HE TOOK WONDERFUL CARE OF AUNT MARY IN HER . WE ALL LOVED HIM.
