Norman Wayne Huggins, 75 of Marissa, IL was born on June 5, 1942; and on Sunday, July 23, 2017 he took his final road trip to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior.
Wayne was born to Herschel and Bertie Huggins. He married Judy nee Greenwood, and they spent 52 wonderful years together. Wayne was survived by his three children – Amy (Harold) Melser of Columbia, IL; Lori (Darren) Touchette of Millstadt, IL; and Andy (Mary) Huggins of Tamaroa, IL; his grandchildren – Andrew (fiancé Leigha), Thomas, Daniel & Sophia Huggins and Jayden Touchette; his two sisters – Violet (Puge) Bishop and Joyce (Rev. Ted) Clark. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy; his sisters – Thelma & Emma; his brothers – Howard, Emery & Nelson.
Throughout his life, Wayne was a mechanic, he owned a gas station, worked at the Chevrolet Plant in St. Louis and at the Baldwin Coal Plant. He loved his wife, family and Chevys. Dad was an honest, blunt and to the point kind of guy. He was the hub of our wheel. He never met a stranger and had a big heart especially for those darn grandkids. Pretty much everyone knew Wayne Huggins because when you met him, you didn’t forget him. He never ceased to surprise you. Dad loved to aggravate and joke so much that he left you just shaking your head and laughing. The “Huggins garage” was the place to be to sit, enjoy and shoot the bull all night. The only stipulation is you didn’t park a Ford in the driveway. Dad loved and protected his family. No words can express how much he will be missed. God speed Dad, you finished your race here on earth and crossed the checkered flag. Enjoy your rewards in victory lane!
Memorials may be made to St. Bruno School Endowment, 204 North Gordon Street, Pinckneyville, IL 62274.

I was your dad’s neighbor across the street. I am sorry to hear about his passing. Both your parents were wonderful people. And you’re right about Wayne not knowing a stranger. He was truly one of a kind! I’m blessed to have known him.

I have so many memories of Wayne and his wife Judy that I don’t know where to begin. He was a great man with a big heart for kids. Growing up I spent many of nights with his family. He sure knew how to make you feel comfortable in his home. I can remember him buying my sister and I Easter dresses when we were very young. He never left us out of anything. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He was an all around great man. Love you Wayne. RIP

Dear Amy, Lori, and Andy – So Sorry to hear about your loss. Uncle Wayne was a very impressionable guy for me growing up at the Huggins gatherings. One of our family favorite stories is when Uncle Wayne would get partnered up with Grandpa Huggins for Rook, look out! “Now Waynie you know you can’t make a hundred!?!?!” He was always very kind and included me in a lot of stuff and sad to know he is gone from this world. Sorry for your loss.
Love,
Scott, Cindy, and Nate
