Mervin Haefner

Mervin Haefner, 83, of Belleville, IL, formerly of Lenzburg, IL, born April 15, 1929 in Lenzburg, IL, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Haefner proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver and member of the Teamsters. Mervin was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and also loved target shooting as well. He was also a proud and faithful contributor to the Belleville Area Humane Society.

Mervin was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine M. (Spurlock) Haefner, whom he married on January 5, 1957 in Chester, IL and who died on August 15, 2010; his parents; Casper R. and Laura (Frazer) Haefner; his twin brother Melvin Haefner and other brothers Harry, Carl, Milton, Elmer and Stanley Haefner; 5 sisters, Ella Fredeking, Dorothy Goslik, Alice Burns, Edith Haefner and Joyce Newcom.

Surviving him are his sister Clara Schneider of Belleville, IL and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Howard Thomure officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter U.C.C. Cemetery in Lenzburg, IL

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I will Miss him and Maxine GREATLY. We had good relationship and fellowship, I remember our long talks and how Maxine loved to watch the kids play in the back yard and would give them Big bags of cookies.
