Mattie Yvonne Dozier

DOZIER
Mattie Yvonne (Newbern) Dozier was born on October 12, 1940 in Medon, Tennessee to James Floyd Newbern and Willie Mable Anderson Newbern. She departed this life very peacefully at rest in her home in Sparta, IL on Friday, April 3, 2020 with her loving family by her side. She was preceded in death by her only son, Kendal R. Dozier, both parents and brother-in-law, Henry L Wilson, Sr.
At an early age, Yvonne, as she was affectionally known, was baptized in the Mississippi River by Rev. James Lampley, Pastor of True Light Baptist Church. More recently, she attended services at Holiness Temple Apostolic Church, in Sparta, IL, under the leadership of her nephew, Pastor Juanez D. Wilson, Sr.
Yvonne attended public schools in East St. Louis School District 189, graduating from Lincoln Senior High School in 1958. She prepared herself for a lifelong career in Business Administration by graduating from Mildred Louise Business College. Her skills were used during her 36-year career with the United States Army Aviation and Troop Support Command in St. Louis, MO where she was a supply technician until her retirement in 1996.
Yvonne loved spending time with her family, eating good homecooked food, TV game shows, bowling, roller skating, visits to the zoo and playing UNO and Old Maid with her great-nieces and nephews. Her beautiful smile and loving personality will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Cherishing her memories are her grandson, Christopher Robert Taylor, her sister, Geanette Wilson, god-sister, Deborah (Douglas) Holmes; 8 nieces, Terrace Lynette (Glenn) Jalivay, Leila Thelen, Keena (Greg) Small, Marci (Tim) Sheppard, Jevonda Ward, Bevey Louden, Carmen (Lloyd) Bodle, Angela Wilson; 6 Nephews, Marcus Wilson, Sr, Henry (Dara) Wilson, Jr., Pastor Juanez D. (Danyel) Wilson, Sr., Corey Wilson, Jaime Wilson, Keevin Wilson; Samuel Lee Dozier (former husband) and a host of great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holiness Temple Apostolic Church at 401 East Main Street, Sparta, IL 62286. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral: Due to restrictions that are in place during the COVID-19 outbreak, a private service will be held for the family.
Interment: Burial will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.
