Marjorie Elwyn may have been one of the oldest residents at the Randolph County Care Center, but even at the age of 101 she was one of the most active with a vibrant personality, engaging humor and relentlessly positive attitude.
Marjorie was a model of what God envisions for us. She prospered as one who served others, even from her wheelchair.as she rolled throughout the care center doing what she had done throughout her life. She was that bright spot for others who needed uplifting, the listener, the comforter, the quiet, positive influence. In her 80’s she drove the “old people” to appointments, served for years at the senior center and was a strong advocate for assisted living in Sparta, becoming one of the first residents in the new Cedarhurst facility.
From her window at Randolph County Care Center, she enjoyed watching families in the park, the same area where many years ago she entertained my brother, sister and me. We knew she was special, and we’ll miss her.

To the family of my Beautiful friend, Marjorie Elwyn. She was the kindest, sweetest, caring person I know. She would do “ANYTHING” for anyone!!! Her and my mom, Geraldine Bosto were best friends. My mom worked at Elwyn’s Cleaners for many years. They had the best group of Ladies working there!!!! So many years ago!! Marjorie, you will be missed by all who knew and loved you.

“Aunt” Marge was truly a wonderful person.
Enjoyed her for years in Sparta and her visits to Effingham. I will always remember he going out to the farm to shot clay pigeons with the guys.
She was one of a kind.

I am Paul Elywin’s brother-in-law. Although I never met Marjorie, I am confident that I have seen the evidence of her positive influence in Paul’s life. I have been and continue praying that Jesus Christ will comfort and richly bless, as you have need, each friend and family member who is touched by her death. You were included in the prayers yesterday at our church service here in Paducah, KY.
Aunt Marj, as I always heard her referred to by Jean McDougal Smith and all her family was quite a woman. She was definitely one of a kind. I don’t think there was anything she was not willing to try and nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. I have fond memories of her trips to Effingham and especially things she did like shooting clay pigeons with the guys and trying anything that anyone would mention. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many friends.
I worked with Marge at Elwyn’s Cleaners in the late ’60s. I’ve considered her a great friend ever since. She was most kind to me and my Father who was suffering with severe dementia in his final years of life. Truly she was a joy to everyone she met and an exemplary Christian Lady.
So sorry to see she was my neighbor sister in Oakdale Jennie Hood that’s how I met her years ago her sister Jennie was so out goimg and super people they both were very outstanding people

If ever there was a saint on earth, it was Marge Elwyn. Her positive attitude and cheerful spirit lifted everyone who knew her. I can’t add any more than what Paul wrote. All of that was so true. It’s not often you say you will miss someone who is 101 years old, but she will be missed! I’m sure there was celebration in heaven when she arrived! Thank you, God, for letting us know Marge Elwyn.
I loved Marge! I have known her since I was a little girl and she and Bill were good friends of my parents, Klondis and Lucille Pirtle. I enjoyed my visits with her when she was in assisted living in Swansea (where I live) and then at RCCC. We always had such good visits talking about her and my mother. She brought joy to my life and I feel privileged to call her my friend.
We are friends of her family here in Effingham, her niece Jean Smith and family, and we felt that we knew her through conversations about her and her life, I myself had the pleasure of visiting with her at her home in Sparta more then a few years ago. She seemed to be a very content lady and thought a lot about her family. We offer our sincere sympathy to her family and will miss hearing Jean tell us more about “Aunt Marj”
Marjorie and I sang alto together in the John Brown Memorial Choir at Westminster church for years. I have fond memories of that time.

What a wonderful tribute, Paul. We so enjoyed visiting with her at both Cedarhurst and RCCC. She was a wonderful friend to my mother when she moved to Sparta from Decatur, and she was a longtime friend of my mother-in-law. She will be missed by both of us! Carol & Konnie
