Margaret M. Warren

Margaret Mary (Nuernberger) Warren, born February 1, 1925, in Marissa, Illinois, died March 4, 2023, at Sander’s Ridge Health Campus in Mt. Washington, Kentucky.

Margaret, known by friends as Marge, was a member of Westport Road Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Louisville, KY. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing games, working on her computer, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Henry Nuernberger and Bertha Kolkmann Nuernberger Bergesen; beloved husband Dale William Warren whom she married in 1945; son Michael Dale; sister Evelyn Analla and step-parents, Velma Nuernberger and Herman Bergesen.

Surviving are her half-sister, Irene Cotton; sister-in-law Dixie Matthews; children Russell (Pamela) Warren and Sue (Jim) Schaefer; three grandchildren Matthew (Shelley) Warren, Lindsay Warren, and Meghan Dawson; and four great-grandchildren Lily, Dawson, Avery and Lincoln. Also, five beloved step-great-grandchildren Kennedy, Landon, Liam, Sophia, and Hazel.

She was in the Cadet Nurse Corps in WWII, and later became one of the first Medical Data Analysts in the United States. Very analytical, with a gift for math, bookkeeping became another vocation at which she excelled.

Margaret loved education and, at 48 years young, went to college to achieve a lifelong dream, graduating with Honors at age 51 with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Pi Omega Pi, and the National Honor Society.

She had a passion for the outdoors, traveling and golf, winning tournaments and trophies until retiring at age 86. Generous with her talents, Margaret served in many organizations. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Woman’s Club, church groups, also tutored students in math, and was a hospital volunteer for 16 years.

She loved meeting and helping people, and will forever stay in the many hearts she lifted and filled with love.

A private burial service, after cremation, will be held at the family burial lot in New Athens, Illinois.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of local arrangements.
