Margaret Elizabeth Gegel, 98 of Sparta, Il, formally of Marissa, Il, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on June 13, 2013 at 5:10 P.M.
She was born November 14, 1914 in Tilden, Il to William and Elizabeth (Bonnert) Patton. She married Lester Frederick Gegel on December 2, 1933. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1985. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Ruby Shute, Mary Francis Patton, Flossie Mae Burk, Susie Verne McDonald, and brother Elmer Bryan McDonald.
Surviving are one son, Gerald A. Gegel (Joyce) of Morton, Il, one granddaughter, Leslie Burlingame (Anthony) of Columbus, OH, one grandson, Lawrence Gegel (Elaine) of Relay, MD, one great granddaughter, Michelle Burlingame of Maple Heights, OH and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret’s life was filled with her love of gardening, baking all those great pies and creating beautiful quilts that she gave to all her friends and family,
Her family wishes to express their deep thanks to the many friends and family members who helped care for her in the later years of her life, and to her doctor, Elvira Salarda, as well as the nurses and staff at Randolph County Care Center who provided such compassionate care
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Marissa , IL.
Visitation: Friends may call at the First Baptist Church in Marissa, IL on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Funeral: Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Marissa, IL on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11:00am.
Burial will be in Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL

ReplyAnother golden-ager from my childhood passes on; the last from that era. She led a full productive life but is now at peace and her longed for heavenly home.

ReplyMargret was a real character – she had real compassion for all – if I missed a Sunday at church and saw her sometime during the next week, she would always say that I had been missed. Loved her dearly – she was one of the “golden oldies” from church that I looked up to. Sherri
