Lydia P. Simburger, 24, of Belleville, IL, born February 22, 1998, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Wednesday November 30, 2022, at her residence. Miss Simburger was a police officer for the Village of New Athens, IL. She was also an E5 Sgt. in the Missouri Army National Guard. Lydia was a 2016 graduate of Freeburg High School and a 2022 graduate of Missouri State University with a bachelor’s in communications. Lydia was a loving daughter and sister. She cherished her friends. What most people remember about Lydia is her infectious smile which was noticeable whenever she entered a room. She wanted to make people laugh and worked hard to be named Class Clown at Freeburg High School.

Lydia is survived by her parents – Leo and Kim (Emery) Simburger, of Smithton, IL, a brother – Andrew Simburger of Smithton, IL and her half-brother – Dan Moll of Mascoutah, IL
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lydia’s honor may be made to Helping Strays of Monroe County or to the Belleville Area Humane Society.
Memorial Service: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10 South Lincoln St. in Smithton, IL on Sunday December 18, 2022.  Religious and ceremonial services will begin at 4 p.m.  Afterwards, friends and family will be gathering until 7 p.m.
Special recognition is given to Brad Penet and others for organizing the memorial service. Their assistance has been greatly appreciated by the Simburger Family.

  1. I had never met Lydia but she sounds like a wonderful human being. She definitely made a name for herself with the accomplishments and service. May God wrap his arms around her and her family during this difficult time. The sorrow and pain are unimaginable. My prayers are with all who knew her.

    The first thought that comes to mind when remembering Lydia was her infectious smile and kind heart. When I first met Lydia, she was was inviting, social and overall you could tell right a way she was an all around genuine person. I will miss seeing her around and I am so sorry to hear this saddening news. Lydia will be missed.
