Loretta Belle (Gerlach) Reid, 85, of Pinckneyville, IL, formerly of Sparta, IL; born on September 17, 1937 in Sparta, IL the daughter of Ervin and Selma (Kramlich) Gerlach; passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

 

Loretta worked at World Color Press in Sparta, IL for 37 years.  She was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta.   Loretta enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making afghans.  In her younger days, she liked to play card games with her friends and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren different games like pinochle and rummy.  Loretta was a great cook that loved making meals for her family.  She would travel frequently to visit her grandchildren and spend time with her family and friends.

 

She is survived by one son – Clifford (Julia) Curless of Pinckneyville, IL; four grandchildren – Beth (James) Prentzler of Macon, MO, Heath (Lauren) Curless of Spokane, WA, Ashley (Jimmy) White of London, KY, and Steven (Jade) Brueggemann of Marion, IL; four great grandchildren – Chase Koch, Shane Koch, Tristan Curless, and Colton White.

 

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband – Thomas J. Reid; parents; two brothers – Virgil Gerlach and Robert Gerlach; one sister – Alberta Branscum.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta, IL.

 

The visitation for Mrs. Reid will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta, IL from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Carl Miller officiating.  Committal services will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.

    To the Reid family. I’m so sorry to hear of your precious loved ones passing. She was a wonderful lady. I worked with Loretta at Spartan Printing for 21 years until it shut down. I always loved hearing about all the grandkids. Your mom was a very special lady. She always had a beautiful smile whenever we saw her at work. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. I am truly honored to have known Loretta for as long as I did. Gone, but never forgotten. God Bless you Loretta. 💔
