Lillian Ella, nee Schopfer, Steinheimer, 89, of Lenzburg, IL; born on August 19, 1928 in New Athens Township, IL; passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with her family gathered around her.
Mrs. Steinheimer was a homemaker. She attended the Dutch Hill School, graduated from New Athens High School in 1946 and studied at Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. Lillian was a member of Holy Ghost United Church of Christ in Darmstadt, IL where she served on the Ladies Guild and other committees through the years. She was a 69 year member of the Progressive Grange and served as lector, chaplain and led the children’s grange as her boys grew up. Lillian enjoyed the farm life. She loved to garden and bake. She was an avid reader and chronicled family life through her writing. Lillian played the piano and enjoyed singing. She was also a talented embroiderer and liked sewing. Above all Lillian was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents – Walter and Hannah, nee Bollmeier, Schopfer. An infant son – Dennis. Two brothers – Wilmer Schopfer; Kenneth Schopfer. One sister – Judith Ronnigen. One brother-in-law – Albert Schrader.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years – Wilmer W. Steinheimer whom she married on April 10, 1948 at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL. Five sons – Wilmer Steinheimer, Jr. of Lenzburg, IL; Steven Steinheimer of Washington, D.C.; Randal (Deborah) Steinheimer of Aurora, IL; Jeffrey (Jennifer) Steinheimer of Godfrey, IL; Craig Steinheimer of Springfield, IL. Her grandchildren – Nathan (Carolyn) Steinheimer of Buffalo Grove, IL; Sasha Steinheimer of Godfrey, IL. One sister – Violet Schrader of Park Hills, MO. One brother – Richard (Sharon) Schopfer of Sycamore, IL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Ghost United Church of Christ or to Darmstadt Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at Holy Ghost United Church of Christ in Darmstadt, IL on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Funeral: Services will be held at Holy Ghost United Church of Christ in Darmstadt, IL on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Shubert officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held in Darmstadt Memorial Cemetery in Darmstadt, IL.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
