Lester H. Hundelt

Lester H. Hundelt, 83, of Lenzburg, IL, formerly of Freeburg, IL, born December 10, 1939, in St. Libory, IL, passed away on Tuesday April 11, 2023, at his residence.  Mr. Hundelt retired from Monsanto after 39 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and gr. grandchildren.

Mr. Hundelt was preceded in death by his parents – John and Agnes (Schorer) Hundelt, his beloved wife – the former Barbara Joseph, 1 daughter – Catherine King, 1 granddaughter – Angel Haney and by 6 brothers.

Lester is survived by 5 children – Richard (Denise) Hediger of Bethalto, IL, Patricia (Larry Cumberland) Spier of Tilden, IL, Lisa Hundelt of Lenzburg, IL, Stacy (David) Hundelt of Pinckneyville, IL, Robert Hundelt of Benton, IL, 3 siblings – Esther Harwerth, Viola Albers and Norbert Hundelt L, 10 grandchildren – Keith Spier, Kenneth (Denise) Spier, Cindy Spier, Thomas King, Michael (Mallory) King, Joshua (Taylor) Lercher, Catherine Lercher, Melissa (Bogie) Lercher, Ryan Haney and Jessica Johnson, 22 great grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lester’s honor are encouraged to be made to the Parkinson’s Association or to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL.

Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday April 17, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday April 17, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL with Fr. Von Deeke officiating.  Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  A luncheon will follow the interment at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL.   Before the procession to the cemetery, a brief visitation time from 8 to 9 a.m. will take place at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.
