Lela M. Torrens

Lela Mae, nee Falkenhein, Torrens, 78, of Lenzburg, IL; born on June 23, 1942 in Belleville, IL; passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Mrs. Torrens and her husband were long time farmers. She was also the owner and operator of Peacock Site Bar and Grill in New Athens, IL. Lela was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and served with the St. John Women’s Guild. She was part of the same card club for over 50 years. Most of all Lela loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents – Adolph and Doris, nee Sackwitz, Falkenhein. One step-brother – Wayne Schmidt.
She is survived by her husband – Jim Torrens who she married on October 14, 1961 in Belleville, IL. Her daughter – Tammy (Vincent J.) Kiefer, Jr. of Lenzburg, IL. Her grandchildren – Vincent (Ciara Kabat – Fiance) Kiefer III; James Kiefer; Leah Kiefer. One sister – Mary (Ted) Thomas of New Athens, IL. Her step-mother – Ella Falkenhein of New Athens, IL. Two half sisters – Donna (Kelly) Boyd; Sandra (Richard) Cummings.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.

Visitation: Friends may visit at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.
Entombment: Entombment will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Jim and family, We will always have fond memories of the fun times at Peacock Site. There was never a dull moment when Lela was around. Will never forget her “headache in the neck” and the time she tried to shoot a coyote from inside the dining room, she missed the coyote but almost shot the propane tank. You have our deepest sympathy.
