Lawrence E. “Elden” Reuss

Lawrence E. “Elden” Reuss, 91, of Marissa, IL, born May 21, 1932 in Washington County, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL. Mr. Reuss was a US Navy veteran. He was a member of the Marissa Fire Dept from 1960 – 2005, he served on the Marissa TWP board, Marissa Cemetery board, the Election Board, he belonged to the Marissa Historical & Genealogical Society, Marissa Chamber of Commerce and was named the Marissa Chamber’s Man of the Year in 2011. He was also a Marissa Presbyterian Church elder and belonged to the Belleville Holzshnitzer Wood Carvers Association. He had also farmed, worked at the Marissa Post Office, and co-owned Reuss-Sinn Auction service.
Mr. Reuss was preceded in death by his parents – Conrad and Pearl N. (Freiman) Reuss, a son – Brian K. Reuss, infant grandsons – Joshua and Caleb Reuss, and his 3 sisters – Arvilla Lehman, Blanche Schmierbach and LaJune Fulton.
Elden is survived by his loving wife – the former Marilyn R. Church, whom he married on December 5, 1953 at the Tilden Presbyterian Church in Tilden, IL, his son – Larry S. (Chris) Reuss of New Athens, IL, daughter-in-law Laurie Reuss, 4 grandchildren – Erin Wilson, Steven Reuss, Renee Birk and Matthew Reuss and 5 great-grandchildren – Charles Wilson, Sydney Wilson, Trexie Wilson, Avery Birk and Skylar Reuss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to the Marissa Presbyterian Church.
Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 9 to 11:30 am on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Marissa Presbyterian Church.
Funeral: Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Marissa Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Ryan officiating. Interment will follow at Marissa TWP Cemetery in Marissa, IL
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.
