Kenneth Mitchell

Kenneth Wesley Mitchell, Senior MSgt – Retired, 73, of Marissa, IL; born on May 21, 1941 in El Dorado, KS; passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.

Mr. Mitchell was a retired Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents – John and Hilda, nee Ratzliff, Mitchell. One sister and one
step-son.

He is survived by his wife Karen, nee Rhodes, Mitchell. One son – William (Stephanie) Mitchell. Step-children – Cindy (Kenneth) Simmons; James (Debra) Butz; Ronald Butz; Timothy (Rebecca) Butz; Sherri Knoke. 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One brother – James (Sue) Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Services: Graveside services will be held at the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00am with Rev. Wilbur Franklin officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held at the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I’m deeply sorry to hear about the loss of my Grandpa Kenneth, I miss him greatly and deeply wish that I was able to get there for the funeral. I hope that everybody is doing alright, if there is anything that i can do from Wichita then let me know. I’m really sorry for his passing, i’m praying that he is in heaven enjoying the afterlife while keeping an eye on all of us.

    Mitch and I served together at Radar Sites in Burns, Oregon and Middleton Island, Alaska. We shared a room for about six months. He was a great guy and I very saddened by his passing.
