ELWYN
June O. Elwyn, 93, of Sparta, IL; Born on April 30, 1928 in Sparta, IL; passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL.
June was a graduate from Sparta High School and attended college at Millikin University. On August 31, 1947 June married Rollin Elwyn. She worked as a bookkeeper at Elwyn’s Cleaners in Sparta. June was a life member of the Westminster Church in Sparta. She was an organist and pianist that played for over 70 years at the church. One of her favorite hobbies was quilting, and she made some of the best quality of handmade quilts.
She is survived by her children – Paul (Maureen) Elwyn of Danville, KY, Jim (Billie) Elwyn of St. Genevieve, MO, and Lynn (Dan) Peck of Sparta, IL; seven grandchildren – Lexie (Russell) King of Prospect, TX, Jaeson (Lora) Peck of Watertown, TN, Ryan (significant other, Jessica Bland) Peck of Schuline, IL, Jenny (significant other, Curtis Farber) Elwyn of St. Louis, MO, Jaimie (Bill) Smith of Sparta, IL, Seth (Haylie) Elwyn of St. Genevieve, MO, Laura (fiancé, George Johnson) Elwyn of Louisville, KY; eight great grandchildren – Sadie King, Max King, Jacob (Ariel) Peck, Cheyenne (significant other, J.D.) Peck, Callie Peck, Gavin Peck, Riley Biermann, and Paige Smith; two great great grandchildren – Nolan Elwyn and Paisley Peck; two nieces – Diane (Gwinner) Snyder and Linda Winfield; one nephew – David Dagner; other relatives and friends.
June was preceded in death by her husband – Rollin Elwyn who passed away on January 18, 1995; parents – Robert E. and Maude (Kelley) Vermillion; sister – Estelle Dagner; brother in law – Robert Dagner; mother in law – Marjorie Elwyn.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sparta Community Chorus or the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sparta.

Visitation: Family and friends may attend the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sparta, IL on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Funeral: Services will be held in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sparta, IL on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Julie Post officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.
Heil – Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements

When grandma and I played an organ/piano duet , it must have taken a lot of love, trust and courage to play with the young amateur I was. Her grandparent pride overpowered the perfection she always expected of herself because, while we sounded pretty good, my part wasn’t perfect. She was the epitome of musicianship and I’m thankful she inspired me and instilled her love of music with so many people. I will miss our late-night heart-to-hearts. Sincere thanks to Marge Q. for her friendship, Debbie B. for her beautiful music, and all her Westminster Church family for their kindness.

June was my friend and my musical mentor, I took organ lessons from her while in High School, and joined the Sparta Community Chorus in 1974, where she was the primary accompanist. I loved going to Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was the organist. I loved watching her “hop” on the organ bench – I knew Church was officially ready to begin!. I purchased Sugar Bear (one of their dogs) in the early 1980’s, and would often take her to Chorus rehearsals, where (of course) June & Rollin would make over her (as well as everyone else!) June was a beautiful Christian lady, with a strong legacy of Church and social contributions. I know she is better off now (in Heaven), but the void in my life is very real. My prayers and thoughts to the Elwyn family. ♫ Philippians 1:3

Jim and family, my sincerest condolences for your loss. Your Mother was truly a great lady. She certainly lived a long valued life. Westminster lost one its cornerstones as well.
