Joyce Eileen Winter, 93, of Marissa, IL, passed away Saturday December 26, 2020 at the Randolph Care Center in Sparta, IL She was a homemaker.

Joyce was born March 31, 1927 in St. Albens, England. She married Emmerson “Spike” Winter July 16, 1946.

She was loved by many in the community.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marissa, IL where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. Joyce had may interesting stories of her life growing up in England during the war. People would stop and listen, mostly because of her British accent.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Emmerson “Spike” Winter, son Paul Martin Winter, parents Edward and Florence Allen and brother David Allen.

She is survived by her son Gene (Alice) Winter; grandchildren Sherri (Robert) Holley, Krista (Todd) Dollar, Dawn (Jason) Pilbean, Gail (John) Ahlers, Kimberly Winter Stacey Porton; great grandchildren Patrick McCarty, Jack and Madeline Dollar, Collin and Brier Pilbean, Evan Ahlers, Lucas Winter and Zachary Harris; great-great-grandchild Emily McCarty.

Private funeral services were observed.

Celebration of Life; the public is invited to join the family for a church memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday June 18, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Marissa, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    Please accept my condolences, and thanks for babysitting me at Mountain Home, Idaho. Mom reminisced with me often about those years during our visits since I retired in 2011 to my natal state, but the northern lake country part rather than the high desert south. She had the “peace that passes all understanding,” and I trust that Joyce did, too.

      I was in Bible Bible Study at her home when I was a young wife and mother. I was glad to get to know her better. My daddy worked with Spike for years and they were fishing buddies. I met Joyce through my mom. Thinking of all of you God Bless.

She was a true testament to a life of a Christian woman. She introduced me to butter rum lifesavers and the love of a British accent. What an honor to remember her each Christmas season when she was able to meet our Savior.
