Joanne Werner

Joanne, nee McGough, Werner, 87, of Marissa, IL; born on August 14, 1929 in Marissa, IL; passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Washington County Hospital in Nashville, IL.

Joanne had many interests. She was a homemaker who loved designing, planning, remodeling and decorating the four homes in which she and Gene lived in Marissa. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and needlework. She was passionate about trees and preserving natural green spaces and she also enjoyed the game of golf.

She was preceded in death by her parents – John and Bert, nee Lehman, McGough.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years Gene L. Werner who she married on November 27, 1947 in Marissa, IL. Her children – Jennifer (Wayne) Politsch of Alton, IL; Scott (Dianna McClughen) Werner of Mahmomet, IL. Her grandson – Aaron Werner of Mahomet, IL.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the memory care nursing staff at Friendship Manor Nursing Home and the medical staff of Washington County Hospital.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the National Alzheimer’s Association.

In accordance with Joanne’s wishes cremation will be held with private graveside services to follow.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I was very sorry to learn of Joanne passing. I remember her as a very pretty lady. She was always so well dressed and a real lady. By the photo on this web site she was that pretty lady I remember all her life. I recall the two of you being a part of my mothers Sunday School young couples class. I know she thought a lot of both of you. You certainly have my deepest sympathy.
