Jamie D. Phelps

Jamie D. Phelps
Jamie D. Phelps, 43, of Marissa, IL, born February 25, 1980, in Red Bud, IL, passed away on Sunday May 28, 2023, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  She was a graphic designer.

Jamie was a beautiful soul. She was a person that, if she loved you, she loved you with her whole entire soul and made sure you knew it. Family was very important to Jamie; her nieces, nephews, and all 11 great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew were her pride-and-joy. They loved their “Aunt Jagie” so much; they all knew she was “in their corner”. She loved taking pictures and was great at it, and the official family photographer. Jamie loved adventures, and along with her friends, was always off hiking, exploring, or just hanging out in new places. Jamie loved game nights with the kids, Monday nights at her sister’s and Saturdays with her friends. The world has lost a beautiful angel. She was so loved and will be missed by so many.
Jamie was preceded in death by her parents – Benjamin D. and Darlene S. (Bingel) Phelps.
Surviving are her sister-Sandy (Robbie) Hahn and brother – Danny (Cara) Phelps, all of Marissa, seven nieces and nephews – Jenni (Travis) Steinwagner, Danielle (Nick) Kimmle, Brittany (Steve) Moll, Benjamin Phelps, Joseph (Charlotte) Phelps, Rachael (Matthew) Reuss and Hannah Phelps.  Jamie is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew.
Memorials may be made to the Marissa Library or the Randolph County Humane Society.
In keeping with Jamie’s wishes, cremation is to take place with a private graveside service at Marissa TWP Cemetery.  A public celebration of Jamie’s life is being planned in the near future.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

I had the pleasure of working with Jamie in Sparta at the newspaper. She was such a joy to work with. I loved going into work because of the people I worked with there. Beautiful soul just seems to sum it up. She would’ve have done anything for anyone at any given time. My condolences to her family and friends. We have lost another angel. RIP, my sweet friend.

Jamie and I were at SWIC ( BAC then) I was a fresh empty nester and hubby traveled all the time. And she was a young girl in college. She was offered a job in Distance Learning but as I recall her parents ( retired) and her were worried it would affect her grant. I said I was interested. She set up my interview. That job helped me over a rough patch and ib now have a small but retirement from it because of her. She was the same age as my youngest daughter. I had no idea and was so ill. RIP Sweet Janie. Gone way too soon!

I always thought of Jamie as a gentle, kind soul who could solve any problems we had while publishing the SHS newspaper, “The Paw Print,” at the Sparta News-Plaindealer. She calmed the waters when technology seemed to oppose us reaching our deadlines. I was always struck by her laugh and the smile that reminded one of an angel who more than saved our day many times over. She was one’s friend for life; and though she is not here with us physically, she will always have that special place in our hearts remembering her and her kind soul…. RIP friend.

My heart breaks after finding out about Jamie’s passing. I worked with her at the BND for 4 1/2 years and remember the day I met her. What a wonderful compassionate person. So full of grace for everyone she met. Rest in peace my friend.

Oh how my heart breaks right now as i read this news…but also i know Jamie is hugging her mama and daddy again whom i know she has missed so much since their passing. Jamie had the best smile and was so very kind. She was a huge part of mine and Eddie Runyon’s childhood as we would walk or ride our bikes over to the Library and she would be there in the back office waiting to chat and read and help us find books. Jamie was a dear dear friend and I can’t think of my childhood in Marissa without thinking of her. As i got older and when i came back to Marissa I would see her and it was like no time had passed. She was a tender hearted woman and she will be very missed by so many.

Jamie was legitimately one of the kindest and most genuine people I knew. Her former colleagues at the BND, myself included, are really feeling her loss and remembering how special and rare a person she really was. Please accept my condolences.

I had the privilege of knowing Jamie for 16 years. We were co-workers, then friends, then co-workers again. She was the most beautiful soul I’ve ever encountered. She was my constant ally, and I knew there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for me. I’ll miss our movie nights and road trips and birthday dinners. It’s hard to think of life without her, but I know she lives on in spirit and will always be with me. Good night my sweet friend.

Jamie was an unforgettable person. She loved deep, had a sense of humor, and was always kind. She made this world a much better place to be in. I know her family will miss her more, but her friends will always keep her in their hearts. Being her friend meant a lot.
Missing you today, tomorrow and always.
