Mr. James Vernon Williams, 87, of New Athens, IL, born February 9, 1936, in Cherryville, MO, passed away on Saturday November 11, 2023, at his residence. Mr. Williams was a laborer and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Paul Vernon and Gladys (Gee) Williams, 2 sisters – Barbra Vogt and Shirley Nauman and 2 brothers – Alan Williams and David Wiliams.

James is survived by his loving wife – the former Barbara Voelkel, whom he married on July 30, 1966, at St.  Peter UCC Church in Lenzburg, IL, 3 children – Rodney Williams of Belleville, IL Bethany Caswell of New Athens, IL, Trevor Williams of Tilden, IL, 2 grandchildren – Devin and Kaylee Caswell and 1 gr. grandchild – Atlas Caswell and 1 brother – Larry Williams of Swansea, IL.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Visitation: 9 – 11 a.m. on Saturday November 18, 2023, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.

Funeral: 11 a.m. on Saturday November 18, 2023, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Stacey Smith officiating.   Interment will follow at St. Peter UCC Cemetery in Lenzburg, IL.
