James C. Torrens

James C. Torrens, 85, of Lenzburg, IL, born February 1, 1938 in Sparta, IL, passed away on Saturday July 1, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO . Jim was a long-time farmer and coal miner. He was a United States Army veteran and member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Curtis and Hazel (McDaniel) Torrens and his beloved wife – the former Lela M. Falkenhein, whom he married on October 14, 1961 in Belleville, IL and who preceded him on January 20, 2021.

Jim is survived by his daughter – Tammy (Vince) Kiefer, Jr, grandchildren – Vincent (Ciara) Kiefer III, James Kiefer, Leah Kiefer, and great grandson – Vander Kiefer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL

Funeral: Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.  Entombment will follow at Valhalla Gardens Mausoleum in Belleville, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Jim and I shared grief together in losing our wives, but just the short time we talked I new he would be a life long friend. nothing but good times and fun and joking. some of Jim’s family may remember me, especially the ones that ‘sampled my Jim Beam Red Stag.im sorry this response is late getting out but still am in grief foe Jim.
