James A. Kirchhoefer

Mr. James A. Kirchhoefer, 81, of New Athens, IL, born February 11, 1943, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Sunday May 26, 2024, at his residence.  Mr. Kirchhoefer was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran.  He had worked for Peabody Coal Company for almost 50 years.  He was a member of UMWA Local #1148, member of Operating Engineers Local #520, member of the MO Nat’l Guard and the Belleville, IL Army Nat’l Guard.

Preceding him in death were his parents – Fred and Luella (Rehmer) Kirchhoefer, and his brother – Fred Kirchhoefer.

He is survived by his wife, the former Debra K. Woodside, whom he married at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL on August 22, 1992, a son – Scott Kirchhoefer and husband, Merim Catak, of Waterloo, IL and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday May 30, 2024, and 9 – 11 a.m. on Friday May 31, 2024, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.

Funeral: Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday May 31, 2024, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Deacon Bruce Carlson officiating.
