Jacqueline A. Hagan

Jacqueline Ann (Hermann) Hagan, 88, of Darmstadt, IL, born February 27, 1933 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Saturday August 28, 2021 at Coulterville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Coulterville, IL. Mrs. Hagan was a homemaker and devoted to her family. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jacqueline attended Cathedral Grade School in Belleville, IL, Notre Dame High School in Belleville, IL and graduated from New Athens Community High School. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL VFW Post 7710 Ladies Auxiliary and the Darmstadt Community Club. She was a telephone operator in Amarillo, TX and in Edgemont, IL in the 1950’s, worked in the bakery department at Schnucks in Belleville, IL and spent over 20 years working at the New Athens Home for the Aged as the Activity Director.
Jacqueline spent many summers tending to the large garden of vegetables, especially sweet corn, tomatoes and strawberries. This was followed by endless hours of canning and preserving. The pantry was never bare. Many winters she spent at the frame quilting a beautiful quilt. Thursday nights were for bowling. While she enjoyed bowling, she enjoyed the camaraderie with her teammates even more. She enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Donald, on the Senior Group trips, was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and she loved to read.
Mrs. Hagan was preceded in death by her parents; Christopher and Viola (Kropp) Hermann, her beloved husband of 65 years; Donald Leroy Hagan, whom she married on September 30, 1955 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL and who passed away on January 4, 2021, and her brother; Gary Hermann.
Jacqueline is survived by her four children; Kristie (Randy) Galati of Swansea, IL, Donna (Michael) Johnson of St. Libory, IL, Robert (Nancy) Hagan of Darmstadt, IL and Michael (Tina Waller) Hagan of Marissa, IL one sister; Joyce (David) Skorcz, sister-in-law; Vicki Hermann, ten grandchildren; Jacob (Amy) Sommer, Kayla Sommer, Melissa (Kyle) Whitworth, Chelsie (Ryan) Stangle, Christian (Samantha) Hagan, Miranda (Rob) Bury, Katrina Galati, Kallie Galati, Kristopher (Wendy) Recker and Stephen Recker, seven great-grandchildren; Wyatt and Morgan Stangle, Abigail and Charlie Whitworth, Waylon Sommer, Delilah Bury, Lilly and Tucker Recker. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coulterville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Coulterville IL.

We yearn to feel your caring touch, just one more time would mean so much. Your beautiful smile we will miss, we have your eternal memory of your soft kiss.”
Visitation: Friends and family may gather from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday August 31, 2021 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL. Due to new Covid19 restrictions, face masks must be worn at all times while in the church and for the family’s peace of mind while greeting them.
Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday August 31, 2021 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL with Fr. Von Deeke officiating. Interment will follow at St. Agatha Catholic Cemetery in New Athens, IL.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
