Jack D. Carter, Sr, 67, of Sparta, IL; born on March 8, 1951 in DuQuion, IL; passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Carter was a coal miner for 38 years. Jack loved the outdoors, especially hunting. He was also a talented woodcarver.

He was preceded in death by his mother – Lillian, nee Hawkins, Conaway. One sister-in-law – Barb Smith.

He is survived by his wife – Mary Sue, nee Hutson, Carter whom he married on October 3, 1970 in DuQuion, IL. His children – Tina (Gregory) Poole of Ellis Grove, IL; Amy D. Carter of Sparta, IL; Jack D. (Angela) Carter, Jr. of Baldwin, IL. His grandchildren – Ethan (Danielle) Poole; Mallory Poole; Sawyer (Heather) Poole; Austin D. (Olivia) Carter; Anthony Carter; Andrew Carter. His great-grandchildren – Amelia Poole; Lillian Poole; Carter Poole; Violet Carter. Three brothers – Don Carter of Marion, IL; Thomas (Carol) Carter of Ava, IL; Allen (Lyn) Carter of DuQuion, IL. Four sisters – Karen Carter of DuQuion, IL; Pat (Odell) Lively of DuQuion, IL; Joyce (Mac) Johnson of Murray, KY; Terri Carter of DuQuion, IL. One brother-in-law – John (Donna) Hutson of West Frankfort, IL. Three sisters-in-law – Judy Wright of Ina, IL; Lois (Elmo) Kelly of West Frankfort, IL; Carol (Curtis) Wright of Christopher, IL.

Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 1:00pm.

Interment: Burial will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.

Heil – Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.
