Mrs. Gladys H. Kinzinger, 97, of New Athens, IL, born February 5, 1926, in Harrisonville, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Memorial East Hospital in Shiloh, IL. Gladys was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a lifetime farmer. She was a member of several organizations including St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL, Mascoutah Moose Lodge, the Progressive Grange and the National Farmers Organization. In addition, she and her husband received the St. Clair County 4-H Livestock Boosters Local Supporter award.
She supported her husband, LaVerne, in various organizations and activities throughout her life. She was most proud to be called a wife, mother, grandma / Meema. Gladys was a hardworking, loyal and loving woman who put her family first above all else. She married her sweetheart, LaVerne “Hap” Kinzinger, at the age of 21 and had 71 wonderful years of marriage. She had three daughters and was so proud of the accomplishments they (and their children) achieved. She was there for every milestone and celebration, no matter the distance, always being their greatest supporter. Gladys will be deeply missed by her family, but her loving values will forever be passed on.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents – William and Applonia (Weber) Dintelmann, her beloved husband – LaVerne H. “Hap” Kinzinger, whom she married on April 26, 1947, and who passed away on April 3, 2019. One sister – Lucille Brandt, two brothers – Elmer Dintelmann and Eugene Dintelmann, one brother-in-law – Victor Brandt, two sisters-in-law – Margaret Dintelmann and Helen Dintelmann.
She is survived by her three daughters – Sharon (Rod) Parker of Towanda, IL, Shirley (Scott) Snell of Woodridge, IL and Sheryl (Terry) Laflen of Swansea, IL. One sister – Lavern Bischoff of McKinney, TX, one sister-in-law – Carol Dintelmann of Hillsboro, MO. Seven grandchildren – Shannon (Joe) Hobson, Shandra (Matt) Ebersole, Brittany (Erik) Dahms, Kelly Snell, Haley (Mike) Snell-Sparapany, Brad Laflen and Kristen (Phil) Webber. Seven great-grandchildren – Alexis and Trevor Hobson, Ellie Ebersole, Nora, Stella and Eva Webber, Savannah Dahms, nieces and nephews.
Memorials: St. John United Church of Christ, Cedar Trails Memory Care, ProMedica Hospice or BJC Hospice.
Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL.
Funeral: Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.
