George Michael Meketa, 55, of New Athens, IL; born on April 22, 1960 in Shelby, OH; passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Mr. Meketa was a building maintenance worker. He was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Belleville, IL and attended St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL. He was a member of the Freeburg Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents – George Albert Meketa and Helen Louise, nee Mercer, Leezy.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, nee Napier, Meketa whom he married on May 2, 2002 in Belleville, IL. One son – Brian (fiance – Katie Crockett) of Highland, IL. Two grandsons – Emanuele Noethen; Isaac Meketa. One brother – John Thomas Meketa of Belleville, IL. Three sisters – Linda Susan (William) Cunningham of Chicago, IL; Nancy Katherine (Michael) Milam of Mount Zion, IL; Mary Patricia (Mitchell) Needleman of Belleville, IL.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 9:00am to 9:45am.
Funeral: A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 10:00am with Father James Nall officiating.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
