Geneva Irene Lockhart, 94, of Sparta, IL; born on December 7, 1928, in Townley, AL the daughter of Theodore and Macie (Burton) Wade; passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Sparta Community Hospital.

Geneva grew up in Birmingham and moved to Sparta with her family at the beginning of her freshman year at Sparta High School. She always loved to sing and dance and later taught her grand, and great-grandchildren songs and dances from her childhood. Her favorite people called her โ€œGGโ€. Geneva loved cooking for her family, sewing for her daughter and granddaughters, working crossword puzzles, and reading mysteries until she lost most of her vision at the age of 80. She liked audiobooks, treasured visits from her family, and enjoyed long walks with her beloved dog, Jack. In addition to being a homemaker, Geneva was a bookkeeper for Tedโ€™s Magnavox Center for 13 years and was an owner for the latter of those 3 years.

Geneva is survived by three children โ€“ Greg (Patricia) Aitken of Sparta, IL, Lynne (Neil) Harris of Sparta, IL, and Lyle (Amy) Aitken of Tuscaloosa, AL; 6 grandchildren โ€“ Michelle (Ed) Heinen of Waterloo, IL, Matt Aitken of St. Louis, MO, Wesley (Mary) Harris of Oโ€™Fallon, IL, Lindsay (Matt) Espenschied of Waterloo, IL, Neely (Alan) Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL, Ashley (Michael) Martin of Vestavia Hills, AL; 15 great-grandchildren โ€“ Remy Heinen, Eddie Heinen, Olivia Aitken, Vivian Aitken, Ellie Harris, Lauren Harris, Wyatt Harris, Calla Espenschied, Macie Espenschied, Dallon Espenschied, Evie Smith, Thomas Smith, Emma Martin, Addison Martin, Ann Martin; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, father of three children โ€“ Wendell Aitken; second husband โ€“ Gene Lockhart; parents โ€“ Theodore Wade and Macie Taylor; two brothers โ€“ Ted and Jack Wade; two sisters-in-law โ€“ Dera Wade Lacy and Vivian Wade.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sparta Lions Club or Randolph County Humane Society.

The Visitation will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 3, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.ย  Memorial Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bonnie Wilkins officiating.

    I worked at where Geneva lived, and she became a good friend of mine. I would sit with her, and we would talk about her robotic dog, and what we had done in our past. She would give me some humourous “Man Advice”, and some “Mom Advice”. I send my condolences to the family. God bless.
