Floyd H. Franklin, 92, of Marissa, IL; born on October 25, 1925 in Clarmin, IL; passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, IL.
Mr. Franklin was a coal miner. He was a member of the UMWA Local 1820. After his retirement from the mines Floyd enjoyed working on and repairing tractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Ollie and Lela, nee Wilkerson, Franklin. His wife of 70 years – Mary, nee Riley, Franklin whom he married on December 30, 1944 in Nashville, IL and who passed away on August 23, 2015. One grandson – Michael Floyd Franklin. Two great grandson – brothers, Zakkary Jerome and Noah Michael Franklin. Two brothers – Homer Franklin; Arkel Franklin.
He is survived by his sons – Gary Franklin of Marissa, IL; Jerry (Fredricka) Franklin of Marissa, IL. Two granddaughters – Amy (Doug) Eggemeyer of Belleville, IL; Julie (Greg) Stellhorn of Baldwin, IL. Eight great grandchildren – Keith Voogd; Alex Eggemeyer; Matt Eggemeyer; Josh Eggemeyer; Ellie Eggemeyer; Luke Eggemeyer; Audrey Evans; Hayden Stellhorn. One brother – Wilbur (Edna) Franklin of Tilden, IL. Also survived by a dear family friend – Barbara Franklin. Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00am with Pastor Paul Hann officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held in the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.

I’m sorry I may not make Uncle Floyd’s funeral because of illness but my thoughts and prayers are with you Gary and Jerry. Uncle Floyd was a gentle giant and a man of few words but he was loved. He now is at peace and with Aunt Mary. God Bless!
