Emilie Sommer

SOMMER
Emilie Anne Sommer, 88, of rural Marissa, IL; born on November 1, 1928 in Baldwin, IL; passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, IL.
Emilie began her working career as a dental assistant in St. Louis County. Staying in the medical profession, she went to work for Dr. Pratt at Queenie Tower at Washington University Medical School. She retired in 1994 from Mercy Hospital working for Dr. Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents – Ferdinand and Emilie, nee Luebkemann, Sommer. Four brother – her twin brother – Ferdinand Sommer, Fred Sommer, Rudolph Sommer and Louie Sommer. Four sisters – Goldie Bollmeier, Augusta Ohm, Lena Behnken and Mathilda Sommer. Two nephews – Nolan Falkenhein and Wayne Behnken. Four brothers-in-law – Arkell Bollmeier, Leonard Ohm, Carl Behnken and Adolph Falkenhein. A sister-in-law – Helen Sommer. A great nephew – Alexander Cummings. Two nephews-in-law – Richard Dethrow and Martin Wright. Emilie was also preceded in death by her dear friend, Bill Neumann.
She is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law – Frieda Sommer, Ella Falkenhein and Leona (Joseph) Braun. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. And her cat – Bumpy. Emilie was the loving godmother to Donald Braun, Emilie Cummings and Brent Sieber.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Baldwin, IL; Freeburg Care Center or to Family Hospice.
Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday, May 29, 2017 from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 1:00pm with Rev. Ramond Holman officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held in Baldwin City Cemetery in Baldwin, IL.
