Elmer “Leedale” Shook, 98, of Sparta, IL, formerly of Marissa, IL; born on April 11, 1922 in Clarmin, IL; passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL.

Leedale was a United States Army Veteran that served during WWII.  He worked at Zeigler Coal Mine for fifteen years, Railway Express for thirteen years and Sparta Printing for seven years.  He enjoyed working on his farm.  Leedale would tell stories about his younger days working on a farm and having to plow fields by hand.  Leedale was an incredibly hard worker and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Shook was preceded in death by his Wife – Frankie (Wood) Shook who passed away on November 3, 1999; Parents – Jessie and Esther (Gass) Shook; Son – Sonny Fred Shook; Step Children – Robert “Bobby” Hamill and Blanche Franklin; Brother – Duane Shook; Two Sisters – Juanita Obermeir and Billie Morrison.

He is survived by Three Children – Carl Jessie (Marlee) Shook of Byron, GA, Ruth Elizabeth (Stan) Herrera of San Antonio, TX and Wayne Allen Shook of Marissa, IL; Two Step Daughters – June Frech of O’Fallon, IL and Dorothy Koerner of Mt. Vernon, IL; Nine Grandchildren – Nicole (Tom) Peters of Freeburg, IL, Derek (Julia) Shook of Smithton, IL, David Bierman of San Antonio, TX, Christopher (Kristin) Herrera of Japan, John Shook of Dallas, TX, Angela Rowland of Searcy, AR, Jennifer Brackenridge of Searcy, AR, Becky Keene of Byron, GA and Christine Etheridge of Byron, GA; Eighteen Great Grandchildren; One sister – Maxine Giacomo of Belleville, IL; Other relatives and friends.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Clarmin First Baptist Church.

Visitation: Friends and family may attend Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Tilden, IL on Sunday, March 14, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Face masks are required to be worn within the building in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Tilden, IL on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Higgerson officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held at Tilden Cemetery in Tilden, IL following the service.
