Eileen Alice Boyd

BOYD

Eileen Alice (Segelken) Boyd, 98, of Sparta, IL; born on December 30, 1923 in DuQuoin, IL the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Lee) Segelken; passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Sparta, IL.

To her very last breath, Eileen was deeply devoted to her family and the Lord.  In her younger days she was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church.  She taught many years of Sunday School there, and she touched the lives of decades of young new believers.  She was also an active member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Funeral Meals Service Team and often a leader at Vacation Bible School.  Eileen and her husband Bill faithfully created baptismal banners to be presented to baby’s families on their baptismal day.  She had great affection for all God’s creatures and whenever possible had a pet by her side.  She had a ready smile and continually shared words of kindness and encouragement to all she met.  She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by two daughters – Janice (David) Bjornson of O’Fallon, IL and Cindy Esala of Collierville, TN; three grandchildren – Boyd Esala, Andy Esala, and Joshua Bjornson; other relatives and friends.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband – Bill Boyd; parents; sister – Connie Krone; brother – Kenneth Segelken.

Janice & Cindy – So sorry to learn of your mother’s passing. I used to see her walking her dog – an older Schnauzer? – nearly every morning. It looked more like patiently ‘following’ on her part while the dog slowly explored. They were a regular sight on my way to work. It’s a nice memory of her.

  2. Cindy, Condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother.

  3. Sending my condolences. I am the daughter of Phil Segelken. Your mom always had a smile on her face.

Oh my Cindy! When l saw your mom’s picture, l thought “l know her”…but it didn’t click that it was your mom. She was so pretty, when we were kids, & is still beautiful, although age has blurred it.
Sending heartfelt condolences to you, Jan, & rest of family. May you know, that you were wonderful daughters, who made their parents very proud.
    Hugs.❣️
