Edward “Leon” May, 68, of Red Bud, IL; born on November 7, 1952 in Pittsburg, KS; passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.
Leon was a United States Army Veteran and Treasurer of the Sparta American Legion Post 396. You could often find Leon in his workshop tinkering on different projects. He loved to tell jokes and stories to anyone that needed a laugh.
He was preceded in death by his grandson – Austin Adams; parents – Edward and Agnes (Becker) May; grandparents.
He is survived by his loving wife – Marilyn (Poole) May of Red Bud, IL to whom he married on November 10, 1979 in Sparta, IL; four children – Tammie (Jared) Henry of Sparta, IL, Gregory (Tina) Poole of Mount Vernon, OH, Angela (Jason) Brown of Red Bud, IL, and Jeffrey (Jenn) May of Riverview, FL; nine grandchildren – Tyler Adams, Dylan Adams, Ethan (Danielle) Poole, Mallory Poole, Sawyer (Heather) Poole, Jordain Brown, Alyssa Brown, Clayton May, and Elyse May; three great grandchildren – Amelia Poole, Lillian Poole, and Carter Poole; two sisters – Brenda May of Waterloo, IL and Linda (Ray) Drew of Bentonville, AR; two brothers – Thomas (Tina) May of Sparta, IL and Kenneth (Kim) May of Snyder, TX.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 396 in Sparta, IL.

Visitation: Family and friends may gather at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the Army National Guard Funeral Honor Detail and the Sparta VFW Post #2698.
Interment: Burial will be held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Cemetery in Murphysboro, IL.
Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements

So sorry for your loss to you and your family. I knew him and got to know Marilyn with coaching ball. That is until I moved. He was a good man.

I think he lived next to my mom, Pauline Lakeman, in Sparta. She always spoke fondly of him and family. You have my sympathy.

My deepest sympathies to Marilyn and the family. I remember Leon loved eating popcorn almost every time I was sleeping over with Tammie way back when.
