Edgar W. “Bud” Wirth, 86, of New Athens, IL, born August 18, 1931 in New Athens, passed away Friday, August 28, 2017 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens. Mr. Wirth honorably served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He was the owner of Wirco Castings Foundry in New Athens. He was a member of SAE Fraternity, Rotary International, Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, IL and various organizations concerned with manufacturing and gray iron foundries.

Mr. Wirth was preceded in death by his parents; Edgar O. and Ollie (Knewitz) Wirth, his wife; Sally Harrison (Carroll) Wirth whom he married in Webster Groves, MO in 1956 and who preceded him in death on August 19, 2011 and his children; Michael Wirth and Nancy Wirth.

“Bud” as he was commonly known is survived by his grandchildren; Jillian and Justin Wirth, sister; Patricia Bartsokas-Huth of Marrieta, OH, 3 nephew; Frank Drinkhouse of Belleville, IL Dr. Tom Bartsokas of Marietta, OH and David Bartsokas of Wildwood, MO and their families, 1 niece; Anne Dailey of Seattle, WA and family, sister-in-law Kathleen Knight of Rhinebeck, NY and Martha “Marty” (Jelliffe) Wirth of New Athens who is the wife of Bud’s late cousin George Wirth.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Athens Home for the Aged.

Visitation; Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.

Funeral: Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Rev. Darrell Weber officiating.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I worked for Bud for about 11 years at Wirco. The man always treated me right and if we met in public he was gracious. I respected him and he respected me. he was a good man.
