Dorothy B. Hentzel

Dorothy Betty Hentzel, nee Utz, 91, of New Athens, IL, born September 20, 1929 in Belleville, IL, passed away Wednesday July 28, 2021 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens. Mrs. Hentzel was a homemaker and retired librarian from the New Athens Library.  She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, VFW Post 7710 Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Lions Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; John W. and Dorothy (Emge) Utz, her beloved husband; Marvin W. Hentzel, whom she married on September 23, 1950 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens and who passed away on August 30, 2016, her sister; Jayne Wasson, brother Norbert Utz and son-in-law; Alan Schmidt.

Dorothy is survived by her four children; Joel (Angie) Hentzel of Smithton, IL, Jan (Craig) Schwartz of Freeburg, IL, Jeana Schmidt of Marissa, IL, Julie (Mike) Crowe of Edwardsville, IL, eleven grandchildren; Jonathon (fiancé – Jill Stuckey) Hentzel, Jennifer Hentzel, Allison (Chad) Carrico, Laura (Brad) Davis, Brad (Katie) Taake, Chris (Rebecca) Schwartz, Jordan Schwartz, Jackie (Phil) Weaver, Joanna (Matt) Lindauer, Megan Crowe, Brian Crowe and twelve great grandchildren.  Also surviving are sister-in-law; Wilda Utz of O’Fallon, IL and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Agatha Parish or to the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens.

Visitation: Friends and family may attend from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday July 30, 2021 and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday July 31, 2021 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.  A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday July 30, 2021 at the funeral home.

Funeral:  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens with Fr. Von Deeke officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Agatha Cemetery in New Athens.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
