Doris M. Lischer

Doris Mae Lischer, nee Reinhardt, 95, of New Athens, IL, born August 11, 1926, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Sunday March 6, 2022, at the New Athens Home for the Aged.  Mrs. Lischer was a homemaker and a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens. She loved being with her family, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, St. Louis Blues hockey, doing word search puzzles and also adult coloring.

Mrs. Lischer was preceded in death by her parents – Daniel and Clara (Hager) Reinhardt, her beloved husband – Gerald C. Lischer, whom she married on January 21, 1961, in New Athens, and who preceded her in death on September 2, 1995, and three sisters – Ruth Schlueter, Esther Lischer and Olinda Nuernberger.

Doris is survived by her three children – Diana (Keith) Reuss of New Athens, IL, Randy (Michelle) Lischer of Addieville, IL and Bruce Lischer of New Athens, IL, seven grandchildren – Stephanie (Andrew) Bachmann, Melanie (fiancé Eric Hine) Lischer, Meghan (Josiah) Evans,, Mallory Lischer, Ryan (fiancé Jessica Heidorn) Reuss, Brandon Lischer and Jared Lischer, five great grandchildren – Avery Reuss, Eliakim Evans, Darby Bachmann, Ezekiel Evans and Egan Evans, one sister – Corine Albert, dear niece Linda Schneider and by other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the New Athens Home for the Aged, with a special thanks to Diana and Theresa Kunkelmann who are also longtime friends of the family and the staff at Vitas Hospice Healthcare, with a special thanks to Mallory and Martha.

Memorials may be made to the New Athens Home for the Aged.

Visitation: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday March 9, 2022, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL and again from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday March 10, 2022, at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday March 10, 2022, at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.  Entombment will follow at Valhalla Gardens in Belleville, IL

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
