We will always have fond memories of Donald, we really enjoyed those butchering days when David and Donald would “discuss” where the cuts should be made. He was always a lot of fun! We’ve truly lost one of the good guys. Rest in Peace Donald, you have fought a valiant battle and you deserve rest!

I was always glad to see Don making my deliveries because he would go out of his way to help in whatever way possible. I would tell him what I was doing and he would get there at the right time to help me set a door or unload shingles or just whatever I needed help with, all the time talking and telling stories. I would never tell him I had already heard the story I would just listen again.

I went to High School with the Averbecks the first year St. Libory switched from Marissa to Freeburg. We were on the baseball team together, David, a pitcher and Donald a catcher. I have fond memories of staying over night at the Averbecks’ and waking up at 5:00AM to do the milking prior to a breakfast for 13 around a massive table. Nobody was starving for a week after that meal!

It just seems like yesterday as I recall our playing days back in Freeburg.
I’m sure I caught a game or 2 with Donald on the mound and I’m pretty
sure he was a left-hander with a sidewinder pitch,, Always a strike, I may add.
One of the truly friendliest individuals even at an early age of 16-17 that I have
ever met. God Bless you Donald. Stay warmed up, I.m behind the plate.

I hadn’t seen Don since high school but I’ll never forget the first day of first grade. The nuns paired us in twos and Don was my partner that day which brought many more years all the way through high school of friendship. It is a sad day but full of great chidhood memories. God Bless you Don and look after your family
