David E. Prather, 67, of New Athens, IL; born January 27, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa; passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at his home.
Dave was a freight claim manager working with Rock Island Railroad, ICG Railroad, and later Canadian National Railroad for 30 years. He liked to hunt but was an avid fisherman who shared his catch with many.
He is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Lucille, nee Williamson, Prather.
He is survived by the love of his life his wife, Jane, nee Adamson, Prather whom he married on October 8, 1978 in Lebanon, MO. 1 step-son – Adam (Amanda) Jackson of Moro, IL. 1 grandson – Jamie Jackson. 2 step-grandchildren – Johnathon Caswell; Grace Caswell. 2 sisters – Mary Ann (Philip) Caster of Lebanon, MO. Stephanie Prather of Branson, MO. His father-in-law – Harry (Joyce) Adamson of Freeburg, IL. 1 brother and sister-in-law – Jon (Betty) Adamson of Freeburg, IL. 4 nephews – Michael Adamson; Tyler Adamson; Philip (Lori) Caster; John Caster. 3 great nieces. And cousins and many friends.
Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held at St. Peter United Church of Christ Cemetery in Lenzburg, IL.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
My condolences to Dave’s family. I briefly went to work for him in the ICG Special Agent dept. He was a great person, a friend and a true Gentleman.
I knew David when he and Janie lived in Homewood. He was a tall, handsome, smiling, yet shy man who made himself scarce When our group of cackling hens, otherwise known as GALS, hit his home for a meeting! He and Janie were two peas in a pod when it came to their beautiful home and landscaping. David was always working on a project for Janie.
