Darlene A., nee Reitz, Miller, 76, of New Athens, IL; born on August 20, 1939 in Biddleborn, IL; passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. Darlene enjoyed listening and especially dancing to polka music.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Gustav and Ella, nee Horn, Reitz. Her husband Irwin Miller whom she married on June 20, 1959 in Waterloo, IL and who passed away on December 5, 2011. One brother – Leslie Reitz. One sister – Barbara Mooney.

She is survived by her children – Marilyn (Doug) Endicott; Carolyn Miller; Rick (Karen) Miller; Randy (Rachel) Miller; Carlene (Tim) Croisdale; Dana (Kevin) Nieweglowski; Jeffrey Miller. Her grandchildren – Corey Endicott; Cassie Endicott; Jacob Miller; Maria Miller; Barrett Nieweglowski; Callie Nieweglowski. Her step-grandchildren – Naseem Al-Bori; Leila Al-Bori; Mahdi Al-Bori; Anisa Al-Bori; Christopher Croisdale; Nolan Croisdale. Two brothers – Kenneth (Gail) Reitz; Merle Reitz. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Darlene also leaves behind her 2 beloved dogs; Fannie Mae and Kena.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Sheila Skorcz for the care and comfort that she provided.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ.

Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 9:00am to 10:00am.

Funeral: Services will be held at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10:00am with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

   Although we didn’t grow up knowing Darlene, we will forever cherish the memories we did have with her. Darlene raised and until she passed, continued to lead an amazing family we have come to know well – a family that took us in quickly and continues to treat us as one of their own. We will forever be grateful to have met her and the family she raised will remain a blessing to us that lives on. God bless you Darlene.
